Dehradun is the capital city of the state of Uttarakhand, Located in the Garhwal region. Dehradun is made up of ‘Dehra’ which pronounced as “dera”, deriving from griha and meaning home and “Doon” is known for the valley that lies between the Himalayas and the “Shivaliks”.

Robber’s Cave

Local people also called this cave as Guchhipani or Guchu Pani. This is 600 mts long divided into two major parts. The cave is very close to Sahasrara springs in Uttarakhand. This Cave is located in Himalaya, which is around at a distance of 8 km from the main city. As locals call it GUCHU PANI, that means as the home of Lord Shiva. If tourists visit in the cave they will figure out in the cave a splendid waterfall with a mesmerizing scene. The cave is actually a narrow gorge. Mindrolling Monastery

The monastery is the one of in the six major Monasteries in Tibet. Firstly, it was built in 1665 by Khochhen Rinpoche along with a group of monks. Again it was re-established by Rigzin Terdak Lingpa in 1676. Monastery has a perfect look with garden and large area. It is the greatest spiritual place, where hundreds of people attain daily. It also has a university campus and tallest stupa in Asia. People attracted to the tall statue of Lord Buddha.

Har ki Dun

Malsi Deer Park

Forest Research Institute (FRI)

The Forest Research Institute has an imposing Colonial and Greco-Roman styles of architecture spread over 4.5 square kilometers, Established in the year 1906. Institute has a very large area and also it is a greater attraction of media as well as Bollywood. You can be shocked to listen that many of the Bollywood film’s shooting has also done here. Some of the famous productions are- Krishna Cottage, Paan Singh Tomar, Kamra No. 404, Dulhan Ek Raat Ki, Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein, Dilli Khabar, Yaara, Dear Daddy and Student of the Year. Forest Research Institute which is abbreviated as FRI, is an institute of the ‘Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education’. It was granted the status in the year 1991 of a deemed university by UGC. Also here you will find museums related to the forest.

Trekking in Dehradun
