Cochin is also known as Kochi. Cochin is a very famous place of tourism in India which is also popular as the ‘Queen of the Arabian Sea’. Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary

 

This is open from 9 am to 6 pm daily. This biosphere reserve is a natural habitat to many regular species and endangered of mangrove vegetation as well as local and migratory birds. This is to note that Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary was home to 194 birds of 32 species in 2006. Several species of fishes are also living here.

You will feel lucky when you happen to spot redshank, brahminy kite, Greenshank, marsh sandpiper, and white-breasted water hen here.

St Francis Church

 

St Francis Church’s opening hours are from 7 am to 6.30 pm on all days. It is one of the oldest churches in India which is built by the Europeans. It is famous for its serene environment, the extraordinary exterior structure, beautiful surroundings, stunning design, offering, and confessional stage are worth seeing. These all reflect the charisma and grandeur of the old-world and its traditions.

Indo-Portuguese Museum

 

The Indo-Portuguese Museum is a mixture of Indian and Portuguese architecture and culture located in the Fort Kochi area. This museum was built by Joseph Urethra who is the former Bishop of the city. The museum is divided into 5 wings i.e. Treasure, Altar of Furniture, Procession, Cathedral, and Civil Life.

Some prized artifacts like Indo-Portuguese Monstrance, Processional Cross made of silver and wood, and Coat of Arms of the Francis are the main attractions here.

Whenever you are going to visit here, remember that opening hours till 10 am to 5 pm and the museum is closed on every Monday and on all public holidays.

Mattancherry Palace

 

Mattancherry Palace built by the Portuguese as early as 1557. It is located in Palace Road and considered to be one of the must visiting places in Cochin. It is also popular with the name of the  Dutch Palace. Its architecture and style resemble like a typical traditional Kerala house with a patio in between and four individual wings. A beautiful temple of Bhagavati is in the courtyard, the protective deity of Kochi community. The specialty of every Kerala house is a courtyard in the center. There are 2 other temples of Shiva and Krishna inside the palace with the collection of paintings and frescos covering a large portion of the palace walls is worth seeing. Veegaland

 

This is also known as Wonder La Amusement Park. The park offers water rides and exhilarating land. Ernakulam Mahadeva Temple

 

The importance of this temple enhanced because it’s the only pilgrimage in South India where the idol of the deity is facing towards the west also it is one of the ancient temples of Lord Shiva in Hinduism located in the heart of Cochin. Kodanad Elephant Training Centre

 

Kodanad is the home to an elephant training center. You may plan to come to Kodanad for a day trip and take this unique experience of washing and training elephants. Also, you will watch the elephants rolling and playing in the water.
