Immense beauty in the world to admire yet Munnar in Kerala is my one true love.
The chilly breeze and purity in nature make you feel the most alive you could have ever been. Surprisingly, the resorts there are aesthetically beautiful yet really inexpensive. The amazing nukkad chai for the heart and feeling the morning dew drops on your face for the soul is like a heaven’s paradise! ( I suggest you take morning walks along the plantations). While walking amidst nature, the serene tea plantations evidently enhance the beauty on the way and definitely in your captures!
Munnar provides a panoramic view of lush green surroundings. The mountainous terrain of Munnar is ideal for trekking and hiking.
One day and night is enough to experience the peaceful retreat which is like a fairytale never seen before.
The famous tourist attractions in Munnar include a trek to top viewpoint, Kolukkumalai hills, echo point, Mattupetty dam, rose garden.
You’ll meet bike riders, photographers, solo travellers throughout still it’s not a very crowded place but a peaceful one.
Climate and weather
The best time to visit Munnar is between September to March because of the pleasant weather, the temperature drops to 10 degrees Celsius. March marks the beginning of summer in Munnar, the temperature ranges between 19-35 degrees Celsius. This is the perfect time for sightseeing and visiting tea estates.
Monsoon season begins from June till September, this is a great time to visit the hill station if you’re looking for a quiet vacation.
How to reach
The nearest airport is the Cochin International Airport, which is around 110kms away. You can hire a cab – a local taxi, Ola cabs or Meru cabs to get to Munnar.
Nothing can be compared to the pleasure of witnessing this golden sunrise at the Munnar viewpoint from 7100 ft.
No wonder it is a complete feast for the eyes to start the day as you can trek towards Kolukkumalai mountain hill from Suryanelli( famous resort settlement) on a foggy morning and feel the clouds moving with you.
Mattupetty Dam and Lakeside
The main attraction of Mattupetty is the dam and lake here, which reflects the tea garden around in its still water. The serene ambience of the lake will take you to the world of peace. You have endless options- you can either go for boating or you can sit on the shore and enjoy the tranquillity here. You can engage yourself with water sport activities like speed boating and enjoy the pretty natural surroundings of this beautiful dam.
Tourists can go for speed boat, motorboat, pedal boat.
The dam is a vital source of electricity generation in Munnar and also a haven for many wild animals and birds due to its constant water availability.
There is so much beauty in the world only if we would just take a moment to appreciate it, so is echo point at Munnar- a beautiful example of picturesque scenery alongside the banks of Kundla lake. Also, it is a collaboration of three different mountain ranges! The vibe of the wind in your hair all the while, with the fragrance of nature in the air and greenery around, is completely blissful. As per the echo phenomenon, your voice returns as an echo when you shout. And that’s really cool! (You can do boating in the lake as well)
There are more than 50 tea estates in and around Munnar taken over by the TATA group. Enjoy the sweet aroma of different types of tea grown here-walk through luxuriant tea estates wrapping the mountains. A visit to tea museum is a must where a short film is played on the projector which tells about how TATA takes care of the plantation workers and how tea is being made from scratch.
Not just a Rose garden
An absolute riot of colours and a rich selection of tropical plants are well displayed in the garden. There are many beautiful flowers in this garden, clearly labelled for easy identification and not just roses as the name suggests. There are also plants for sale at a very reasonable rate at the end of the visit.
Eravikulam national park
This park offers a chance to stroll among the highest mountains and to see the protected Nilgiri Tahr, a mountain goat that lives only in the Himalayas and here. A bus takes you to and fro of the tourism department. Perched 7000ft above sea level, is amazingly beautiful with the highest peak south of the Himalayas-the Anamudi.
After clicking countless pictures and videos at the hill, on the roads, you can drive towards the Munnar town and have mouth-watering South Indian food that is surprisingly quite affordable and Delish. (However, you get all cuisines there). Almost all the shops there sell homemade chocolates, oil, spices and natural products. Will surely suggest you buy virgin coconut oil!
You can have thirst-quenching coconut water near to the echo point as there were lots of stalls selling coconut water and indeed it is the best coconut water you’ll ever have while witnessing the most mesmerising sight.
Be it a peaceful stroll around the hills or a trek to the hilltop, Munnar is a complete paradise to visit every time.No wonder it’s known as GOD’S OWN COUNTRY.
